1. Who I am
This website, https://abdullahislam.com, is operated byAbdullah Islam ("I", "me", "my"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information I collect, how I use it, and the choices you have about it when you visit this site or subscribe to my newsletter.
2. Information I collect
- Email address — when you subscribe to my newsletter through the subscription form.
- Contact form data — if you use the contact form, I receive your name, email address, and the message you write.
- Comment data — when a comments section loads, Giscus receives technical request data such as your IP address, browser information, and the page URL. If you comment or react, GitHub processes your GitHub account information and the content you submit.
I do not directly collect any other personal data about you on this website.
3. Newsletter subscriptions (Buttondown)
This site uses Buttondown to manage the newsletter and store subscriber email addresses. When you subscribe:
- Your email address is sent to and stored by Buttondown.
- Buttondown records the IP address and referrer metadata associated with your subscription.
- Buttondown uses double opt-in: you receive a confirmation email, and your subscription only becomes active after you click the confirmation link.
Buttondown is a third-party data processor (Buttondown, LLC, based in the United States). It processes data in the US and is GDPR compliant. It does not sell your data or use it for advertising purposes.
Your email address is used solely to send you newsletter emails, such as new posts and updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
For more details, see Buttondown's legal documents:
4. Contact form (Web3Forms)
If you send me a message through the contact form, your name, email address, and message are processed by Web3Forms, a third-party form-processing service, so that I can receive and reply to your message. For details, see Web3Forms'Privacy Policy.
5. Comments (Giscus and GitHub)
Article and chapter comments are provided by Giscus. Giscus loads content from giscus.app and uses GitHub Discussions to store comments and reactions. Viewing a comments section sends technical request data to Giscus. To post a comment or reaction, you must sign in with GitHub, and GitHub processes your account details and submitted content under its own terms.
Comments are public and are stored in this site's public GitHub Discussions repository. Do not include sensitive personal information in a comment. For details, see the Giscus Privacy Policyand GitHub Privacy Statement.
6. How I use your information
- To send you the newsletter you signed up for.
- To respond to messages you send through the contact form.
- To provide public comments and reactions on articles and chapters.
I do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties except the services listed above (Buttondown, Web3Forms, Giscus, and GitHub).
7. Legal basis for processing
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the legal basis for processing newsletter and contact-form data is your consent, which you give when you subscribe or submit the contact form. Comment functionality is provided for the legitimate interest of enabling discussion; GitHub account actions are initiated by you. You may withdraw consent at any time where consent applies.
8. Data retention
- Newsletter: your email address is stored until you unsubscribe or request its deletion.
- Contact messages: kept only as long as needed to respond to your message, then deleted.
- Comments: stored publicly in GitHub Discussions until they are deleted by you or a repository moderator, subject to GitHub's retention practices.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/EEA under GDPR), you have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete your personal data.
- Object to or restrict the processing of your data.
- Data portability.
- Withdraw your consent (unsubscribe) at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact me through thecontact page. You can also unsubscribe or request deletion directly through Buttondown.

This website does not use tracking cookies or analytics. It stores only a theme preference (light/dark) in your browser's local storage; this is not used to identify or track you.
Buttondown may set its own cookies when you interact with the subscription and confirmation process; see Buttondown'sCookie Policy.
Giscus and GitHub may use cookies or similar storage when the comments section loads or when you sign in to GitHub. Their use is governed by the policies linked above.
